ersatz-accuracy

category: auntology, coined-term

"Ersatz accuracy" is a term that I coined to translate the notion of 廉價七成正確 (lit. cheap-price 70% correctness); in most cases it refers to something that's very simple (hence the "cheap-price"), very discriminatory and harsh but has this strangely high accuracy (hence the "70% correctness"), which makes it the go-to option because there are times when 100% correctness is undesirable (e.g. by having a high cost) or straight up impossible. Of course the much more common phrase for this would be "rule of thumb", but "rule of thumb" refers to the rule itself rather than the fact that it works sometimes.

Example of usage:

Yeah, I know it's wrong to call black people thieves and robbers just because they're black, but bro you're in Chicago, don't you think a wee bit of racism would at least make you safer with ersatz accuracy?

Disclaimer: the paragraph above is only a designed example; it's made up, it didn't happen, and I'm not saying that I support racism. This is just an example about how you can use this term.
